According to the information released by the Ministry of Agriculture, as of June 14, beekeepers have delivered 499.28 tons of fresh silk to “Azəripək” LLC. On the previous day, beekeepers delivered 47.66 tons of fresh silk. The highest delivery of fresh silk was recorded on June 13, when a total of 121.69 tons of fresh silk was handed over by beekeepers.
Zardab, Fuzuli, Zagatala, Balakan, Agjabadi, Barda, Sheki, Kurdamir, Gakh, and Agdam districts lead in silk supply. To date, deliveries include: 59.62 tons in Zardab, 49.72 tons in Fuzuli, 46.87 tons in Zagatala, 43.24 tons in Balakan, 45.20 tons in Agjabadi, 32.65 tons in Barda, 31.98 tons in Sheki, 21.33 tons in Kurdamir, 21.27 tons in Gakh, 16.29 tons in Agdam, 13.11 tons in Goychay, 12.46 tons in Agdash, 12.29 tons in Tartar, 11.36 tons in Sabirabad, 9.75 tons in Ujar, 7.48 tons in Lankaran, 5.29 tons in Imishli, and 4.85 tons in Jabrayil. Currently, fresh silk is being collected in 38 districts across the country.
It should be noted that 800 tons of silk production is forecasted for 2019. In 2018, beekeepers delivered a total of 513.9 tons of fresh silk, which is 2.1 times higher than the previous year.
As a result of the implementation of the State Program for the Development of Sericulture and Silk Production in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2018–2025, the production of fresh silk is expected to reach 6,000 tons by 2025.
Fresh silk production is subsidized by the state.
Beekeepers deliver fresh silk to “Azərİpək” LLC at a price of 4 AZN per kilogram. In addition, the state provides farmers with a subsidy of 5 AZN per kilogram of fresh silk produced.
Overall, farmers receive 9 AZN for each kilogram of fresh silk delivered.
To establish a feed base for sericulture, over the past three years, 3.5 million mulberry seedlings have been imported from the People's Republic of China and planted in various districts. The last batch of 1 million mulberry seedlings was imported from China on December 4, 2018, distributed across 36 districts, and planted.
