The procurement of fresh silk has started in Azerbaijan.

The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, has shown care and support for the development of the country’s agricultural sector, which has positively influenced all areas of agriculture and the social life of rural workers.

According to information provided by the Azerbaijan Industrial Corporation to Trend, in line with the President’s directives for the development of sericulture in the country, measures have been initiated to establish modern infrastructure for silk production, strengthen the feed base for silkworms, organize silkworm seed production, and implement other related activities.

Given that sericulture, an export-oriented sector, plays a key role in ensuring employment in rural areas, great emphasis is placed on developing this field in the regions.

This year, “Azəripək” LLC, the only enterprise engaged in sericulture in Azerbaijan, has signed contracts with over 5,500 silkworm breeders across 40 districts of the country. The feeding process of silkworms is ongoing, and the collection of fresh silk cocoons has already begun in all districts. The collection of fresh silk cocoons at the collection points is carried out with the participation of procurement specialists from the Ministry of Agriculture and “Azəripək” LLC. According to operational data provided by the enterprise, since the beginning of the season, breeders have delivered 88,674.65 kilograms of fresh silk cocoons to the collection points. Cocoon procurement is currently ongoing.
